A Hui Hou Kākou— Until We Meet Again! Mahalo to the Girl Scouts from all across the United States who joined us for a week of unforgettable fun at Camp Paumalū located on the North Shore, Oʻahu. Hawai‘i is one of the most beautiful and unique destinations to visit. Brought together at the intersections of cultural and intellectual enrichment, our Pacific Exploration in STEM program took these Girl Scouts all across the island of Oʻahu to learn both within and beyond the classroom.
At our Camp Paumalū Innovation Center, the Girl Scouts were joined by guest speakers: Katherine Uttley, Ph.D. (Oceanit Senior Research Chemist), Catherine Hanna (Oceanit Civil Engineer), Kari Noe, Ph.D. (research assistant at Laboratory for Advanced Visualization and Applications at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa), and Maxx Taga EIT, A.M.ASCE (NASA Launch Site Integration Manager).
Beyond the classroom, they flourished from the kalo fields of Kualoa to the waters of Chun’s Reef. Learning about the rich agricultural history of kalo, taking on the challenge of learning to surf, caring for our environment by cleaning up microplastic pollutants from Hanauma Bay, and working together to build a ko at Waimea Valley— these are only a few things from our extraordinary week together. Click here to see more of the memories and friendships made!
Mahalo nui loa to all our incredible guest speakers and guides who helped us learn lessons that will last a lifetime: United Airlines, Oceanit, NASA, Hanauma Bay, Kualoa Ranch, North Shore Surf Girl, Bonzai Betty photography, the Surf Professor, Polynesian Cultural Center, United Airlines and Waimea Valley. Want to join us next time? We will be hosting Destinations in the summer of 2024 and applications open on August 1st on the GSUSA Destinations website.
