Financial Aid Programs
Girl Scouts of Hawai`i has identified these priority needs: (1) Leadership development opportunities for young girls; (2) Programs that engage girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) opportunities; (3) Experiential learning opportunities outside of the classroom that complement national and state school requirements; and (4) Barriers to participation in quality out-of-school time programs for children from low-income communities.
After School Leadership
Girl Scouts of Hawai`i offers an After School Leadership Program (ASLP) to meet the need in Title 1 schools and under-resourced areas for leadership programs for girls from low-income families. The program utilizes Girl Scouts of the USA’s (GSUSA) curriculum guidelines with localized content that provides hands-on, experiential out-of-classroom learning opportunities that complement national and state science standards to girls in under-resourced communities. We remove barriers to participation by offering the programs at a low cost and delivering them in their classrooms or at Boys & Girls Clubhouses within easy walking distance of a school.
Designed by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the Leadership-focused curriculum is developmentally appropriate for girls in kindergarten to twelfth grades. ASLP is organized into "Journeys" based upon the Girl Scouts' program levels. Each Journey aligns with the national educational Common Core Standards adopted by 48 states, including Hawaii, and has a specific program focus. This program is possible through City and County and community grants and foundation support.
