Camp Piiholo - Maui
Get ready for a fun, hands-on outdoor adventure where Girl Scouts will build confidence, teamwork, and practical camping skills while working toward the Outdoor Skills Patch. During this camp, girls will explore the "basic 8" outdoor skills: practicing good outdoor manners, choosing proper clothing, tying knots, learning pocketknife safety, understanding campfire safety, preparing simple meals, staying safe, and using a compass.
Participants will learn how to care for the outdoors by following Leave No Trace principles, cleaning up after activities, respecting wildlife, and leaving places better than they found them. Girls will also discuss what to wear for different outdoor situations, make packing decisions, practice basic knots and rope care, and learn safe ways to use tools with adult guidance.
Camp activities include fire safety lessons, identifying tinder, kindling, and fuel, preparing a no-cook meal, talking about food allergies and handwashing, assembling basic first-aid supplies, practicing the buddy system, reading maps, finding cardinal directions, and role-playing what to do if separated from the group. Activities will be adjusted for age level and completed with appropriate adult supervision.
This experience is designed to help girls feel more prepared for future hikes, campouts, field trips, and outdoor adventures. By the end of camp, Girl Scouts will have practiced important outdoor safety habits, strengthened their problem-solving skills, and gained a deeper appreciation for nature and responsible outdoor recreation.
