🐎Strengthen confidence, teamwork, and communication in this immersive Horsemanship Badge experience hosted by the Girl Scouts of Hawaii and Hoomaluhia Horse Rescue.

Centered on the theme "Building Trust Between Horse & Girl Scout," this event introduces girls to the skills and awareness needed to interact safely and respectfully with horses. Girls will participate in a series of hands-on, guided activities designed to help them understand how horses think, communicate, and respond to their environment:

🐴 Understanding Horse Body Language

Sanctuary staff will teach girls how to read horse cues-ears, eyes, posture, and movement-and practice approaching and leading a horse with calmness, confidence, and safety in mind.

🏇 Groundwork

Girls will enjoy a beginner-friendly groundwork lesson focused on posture, balance, and responding to commands (on the ground). This activity highlights trust-building and fosters a positive introduction with both the girl scout & horse.

🧽 Tack Room Tour & Equipment Care

Scouts will step inside the tack room to explore saddles, bridles, halters, grooming tools, and more. They'll learn how to identify equipment, understand its purpose, and practice basic cleaning techniques to keep tack safe and functional.

🎨 Horsemanship Safety Poster

Each girl will create a colorful, educational horsemanship safety poster to be displayed at the sanctuary-reinforcing what they learned while helping future riders stay safe.

🌟 "Meet the Horses" Showcase

To deepen empathy and connection, sanctuary staff will introduce girls to several rescued horses and share their unique rescue stories, recovery journeys, and personalities.

By the end of the clinic, scouts will have gained valuable horsemanship skills, strengthened their confidence around large animals, and earned their Horsemanship Badge with pride.
