This immersive badge experience gives girls the opportunity to step into the role of a real horse caretaker while learning how rescued horses are supported, rehabilitated, and loved.
Throughout the event, girls will rotate through interactive, hands-on learning stations, each highlighting an important part of daily horse care:
Work alongside sanctuary staff to learn proper techniques for brushing, grooming, and understanding the importance of hoof cleaning in a horse's overall well-being.
Help prepare feed and water while discovering what horses eat, how their diet supports their health, and why hydration is crucial-especially in Hawaii's climate.
Get hands-on experience cleaning stalls and creating a safe, comfortable environment that keeps rescue horses healthy and happy.
Design and build enrichment items-such as treat balls or hanging snacks-that help keep sanctuary horses mentally stimulated and engaged.
At the end of the day, scouts will come together for a reflection circle to share what they learned about responsibility, empathy, and the commitment required to care for large animals.
This event not only fulfills the Horse Care Badge requirements but also fosters respect for the valuable work done by local rescues. Girls will walk away with new skills, confidence, and an appreciation for our equine friends.
